Harwood Catalytic Guide Program

The Harwood Catalytic Guide program is an intensive learning experience for individuals who have a deep desire to guide and lead organizational and community efforts that create lasting impact. Across an orientation and 12 virtual sessions, this program equips individuals with the mindset and tools necessary to be “catalytic” so they can support and catalyze others to create much-needed change and impact in their communities and organizations.

Participants will learn to:

  • Develop and grow the mindset and behaviors Guides need to be catalytic by making ruthlessly strategic discernments, judgments, and choices.

  • Focus their efforts on guiding people to take actions that are doable, actionable, and achievable in order to unleash a chain reaction of actions that addresses fault lines and strengthens their community’s civic culture.

  • Encourage the people they guide to build teams of allies to support the work and spread the approach to others in the community.

  • Inspire people to “show up” differently in their work and lives.

As engaged learners, program participants will be challenged to actively apply themselves—to problem-solve; apply what they are learning to their role in an organization or community; and make time to reflect on their learnings, what it means to be “catalytic,” and what it will take to apply the approach to local efforts.

Qualities of a Harwood Catalytic Guide

Seeks clarity. Makes intentional discernments. An avid learner and doer. Highly self-aware.

Cohorts

  • The work challenged my definition of catalytic, as well as challenged my definition of what it means to be turned outward. This program helped me to see ways I have continued to hang on to my own agenda. I am now more intentional about setting my personal thoughts aside when engaging others and when looking for solutions to various community problems.

    Harwood Catalytic Guide

  • Before this program I am not sure I ever truly considered my impact. My mindset was very much focused on getting things accomplished (many times just doing things myself) and very project based, without a lot of attention to how the good things I was working on might be amplified if they were part of a larger strategy.
