Lucas Powers

Lucas Powers is a freshman at American University in Washington, DC, studying International Relations. Growing up in Puerto Rico, he developed a strong passion for civic engagement by leading community service projects as Student Body President and serving as an officer in his school’s Social Action Club. Now in DC, Lucas has embraced a variety of unique student opportunities, including journalism and winning his university's prestigious Writer as Witness freshman essay contest. 

At the Institute, he will play a key role in supporting the Public Innovators Labs and conducting research for the Harwood School.

An avid writer, Lucas enjoys drafting stories and conducting research in his free time. He also loves spending time with friends and the beach.
